Another New England native commits to BU

Sam Kurker, a right winger/center ready to start his senior year at St. John's Prep, has verbally committed to Boston University, fulfilling what he called a childhood dream of being a Terrier. The Salem News broke the story last night.

A Reading native, Kurker has been in touch with BU coaches since the Select 16s camp last summer, but his arrival on campus may not be for some time. He will suit up for the Terriers starting in the fall of 2012 or 2013, depending on whether or not he plays a year of junior hockey after high school.

(Charlestown) as New England-native recruits.
In the meantime, he will captain St. John's 2011-12 team as he looks to build on a junior season during which he set career highs in goals (20) and assists (17).

Four new Terriers to suit up for 2011-12 men's hockey team

The Boston University men's ice hockey team officially announced the arrival of four new players when it released its 2011-12 roster on Wednesday.

As expected, the Class of 2015 will include forwards Cason Hohmann and Evan Rodrigues as well as defenseman Alexx Privitera.

A fourth Terrier, goaltender Anthony Moccia, may be a new face on the roster, but he is not a new face at Agganis. The Medford, Mass. native was a practice goalie for the Terriers last season and will start the year in former Terrier Adam Kraus's spot as a third goalie.

Coach Jack Parker singled out Privitera in the press release as "a big get for our program." The 18-year-old blue-liner is a former member of the United States National Development program and last played in the United States Hockey League for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he finished fourth among league defensemen in scoring with 34 points. Parker compared Privitera's style of play as similar to that of former Terrier David Warsofsky, but at 5-foot-11, 195-pounds, Privitera is an upgrade size-wise.

Adam Erne decommits to join Quebec

Adam Erne, a 16-year-old forward, has decommitted from Boston University in favor of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, according to hockeyjournal.com The news comes just over a year after Erne originally said he would come to BU in the fall of 2013.

The North Branford, Conn. native previously claimed

BU is a school he always wanted to play for, but after being drafted in the second round (22nd overall) of the QMJHL's draft and having his rights traded to Quebec, he changed his tune.

He racked up
10 goals, 8 assists and a minus-18 rating in 45 games this past season for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League.

Erne is the second player this summer to decommit from BU, following in the footsteps of defenseman Anthony DeAngelo, who in July decided to join the Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting.
